Your baby at 12 weeks
Reflexes are developing: the fingers curl, the toes flex and the baby makes sucking movements. The kidneys have started producing urine, and the intestines, which grew partly inside the umbilical cord, have moved into the abdomen.
Your body at 12 weeks
Your uterus is rising out of the pelvis, so a small bump may begin to show. The risk of miscarriage is now much lower than in the first weeks.

When to call your doctor
Contact your doctor or go to hospital straight away if you notice:
- Heavy vaginal bleeding or passing clots
- Severe or one-sided abdominal pain, shoulder-tip pain or fainting (possible ectopic pregnancy)
- Vomiting so severe you can’t keep fluids down
- Fever above 38 °C or burning urination
