Overview

Month 7 begins the third trimester – the home stretch. Many Indian families celebrate with a baby shower (godh bharai, seemantham or valaikappu) around this time.

Your baby this month

Your baby grows to about 41 cm and 1.5 kg. The eyes open and close, eyelashes form, the brain grows rapidly and all five senses are working. With neonatal care, most babies born this month survive.

Your body this month

Breathlessness, backache, heartburn, frequent urination and fatigue are common. Braxton Hicks tightenings may become more noticeable, and some women leak colostrum.

Check-ups & tests

  • Antenatal visits about every 2 weeks
  • Growth scan and Doppler if advised (28–32 weeks)
  • Daily awareness of your baby’s movements

Nutrition this month

  • Continue IFA and calcium tablets
  • Frequent small meals as your stomach has less space
  • Limit fried and very spicy food if heartburn is a problem
