Overview
Month 5 includes the halfway point of pregnancy (20 weeks) and one of the most important scans. It is often the month you first clearly feel your baby move.
Your baby this month
Your baby grows to about 28 cm from head to heel and roughly 430 g. Hearing develops, a protective coating (vernix) forms on the skin, and the baby swallows amniotic fluid and practises sucking.
Your body this month
Movements (quickening) become noticeable – like bubbles or flutters at first. Backache, leg cramps, dizziness on standing and heartburn may start. The top of your uterus reaches your belly button around 20 weeks.
