Using our calculators
Are the calculators on this site free?
Yes. Every calculator and guide on pregnancycalculator.in is completely free, with no sign-up or login.
Do you store the dates I enter?
No. All calculations run inside your own browser. The dates, weights and other details you enter are never sent to us or stored anywhere. If you use the Share button, your inputs are placed in the link you choose to share.
How accurate is the due date calculator?
The arithmetic is exact and follows the same rules obstetricians use (Naegele’s rule with cycle-length adjustment, IVF embryo-age formulas and ultrasound dating). But a due date is always an estimate: only about 4–5% of babies are born on the day, and most arrive within two weeks either side.
Which calculation method should I choose?
Use your last period (LMP) if you know it and your cycles are fairly regular. Use the IVF tab if you conceived through IVF or FET. If you’ve had a first-trimester scan, the Ultrasound tab – or the due date your doctor gave you – is the most accurate.
Why does my doctor’s due date differ from the calculator’s?
Your doctor may have adjusted your due date after an early ultrasound showed the baby measuring bigger or smaller than LMP dates predicted. Enter the doctor’s date in the ‘Due date’ tab so all results match their dates.
Can I save or share my results?
Yes. Use ‘Add to calendar’ to download your key dates to Google, Apple or Outlook calendars, ‘Share’ to send a link, or ‘Print’ to print just your results.
Pregnancy dates & weeks
Why is pregnancy counted from my last period and not from conception?
The first day of the last period is a date most women know, while the exact day of conception is rarely known. Counting from the LMP gives everyone a shared starting point, which is why you’re considered about 2 weeks pregnant at conception.
Is pregnancy 40 weeks or 9 months?
Both. 40 weeks from the LMP is about 9 calendar months and one week. If you count four-week months, it’s 10. Doctors always use weeks because they’re more precise.
What does “12+3” or “12w 3d” mean on my report?
It means 12 completed weeks and 3 days of pregnancy. At 12+3 you are in your 13th week.
When does each trimester start?
The first trimester runs from week 1 to 13 weeks 6 days, the second from 14 weeks to 27 weeks 6 days, and the third from 28 weeks until birth.
Early pregnancy
How soon can I take a pregnancy test?
The most reliable time is from the day your period is due. Sensitive tests may detect pregnancy a few days earlier, but a negative result then doesn’t rule it out. If you don’t know when your period is due, test 21 days after unprotected sex.
When should I see a doctor after a positive test?
Book your first antenatal visit as soon as possible, ideally by 8–10 weeks. See a doctor urgently if you have heavy bleeding, severe one-sided pain, shoulder-tip pain or fainting.
Is spotting normal in early pregnancy?
Light spotting can happen around implantation or after an internal examination, and is often harmless. But any bleeding in pregnancy should be reported to your doctor, and heavy bleeding or bleeding with pain needs urgent care.
How much folic acid should I take?
400 micrograms daily is usually recommended from at least a month before conception until 12 weeks. Your doctor may prescribe a higher dose if you have certain risk factors. In India, iron-folic acid tablets are then usually given from the second trimester.
Scans & tests
Which ultrasound scans are routine in pregnancy?
Commonly a dating scan at 6–9 weeks, an NT scan at 11–13+6 weeks, an anomaly (Level-II) scan at 18–22 weeks and a growth scan at 28–32 weeks. Your doctor may add others as needed.
Can a scan tell me whether I’m having a boy or a girl?
Determining or disclosing the sex of a fetus is illegal in India under the PCPNDT Act, 1994, so scan centres will not tell you. No calculator or chart can predict a baby’s sex either.
When is the glucose test for gestational diabetes done?
Indian national guidelines recommend a 75 g glucose test at the first antenatal visit and again at 24–28 weeks. Your doctor will advise on timing.
Health & lifestyle
How much weight should I gain in pregnancy?
It depends on your BMI before pregnancy. For a normal BMI, around 11.5–16 kg is recommended for a single baby. Try our weight gain calculator for a personalised week-by-week range.
Is it safe to exercise during pregnancy?
For most healthy pregnancies, yes. Around 150 minutes a week of moderate activity such as brisk walking, swimming or prenatal yoga is beneficial. Check with your doctor first, especially if you have complications.
When should I be worried about my baby’s movements?
Most women feel movements from 16–24 weeks. From then on, if you notice your baby moving less than usual, or the pattern changes, contact your doctor or hospital the same day – don’t wait until the next day.
