A maternity hospital or nursing home is where you give birth and recover afterwards. Options range from large multi-speciality hospitals with neonatal intensive care to smaller maternity homes. The right choice depends on your health, your doctor, distance from home and budget.
What to look for
- 24×7 labour room with an obstetrician, anaesthetist and paediatrician available round the clock
- A Level II or III NICU on site (important for twins, preterm or high-risk pregnancies)
- Blood bank or blood storage on site
- Clear package pricing for normal and caesarean delivery, and what is excluded
- Cashless insurance tie-ups, or eligibility under Ayushman Bharat / state schemes
- Support for breastfeeding and rooming-in, and visiting rules for family
- Travel time from home at different times of day
